LIFE

Editor’s Picks: March 2020

From one of my favorite children’s books and a versatile shelving unit to a pump that will work with just about any outfit, a family-favorite recipe, and a tip for a vacation in the Czech Republic, I hope you find inspiration with this month’s selection of a few of my favorite things.

Good Reads

The Pout, Pout Fish

Written in rhyme, this story is sweet and fun to read—and the illustrations are wonderfully engaging. Visit poutpoutfish.com to see more books in the series. Available in paperback, hardcover, and board book. $5 and up, Amazon.com

For the Home

VITTSJÖ Shelf Unit

We originally purchased this when we moved into our (fourth) apartment, and it has since transitioned nicely into our (third) home. It’s nice to have versatile pieces when you move as much as we do! Helpful tip: When filling your bookshelf, organize your books by the color of the spine, starting with light colors on top and working your way down to the darker colors. Your books might not be in alphabetical order or categorized by genre, but your bookshelf as a whole will sure look neat and tidy! $79.99, Ikea.com

Wardrobe Essentials

Waverly Pump

If you’re looking for a fun and practical pair of heels to add to your wardrobe, this Waverly Pump from Coach is a beautiful shoe. It’s available in beechwood (pictured), black, and chalk. (And if you, like me, are always looking for a deal, try a Coach Outlet store, which is where I found this shoe at a huge discount.) $195, coach.com

Food & Drink

Aunt Barb’s Burritos

Whether we’re having two or ten people over for dinner, my aunt’s burrito recipe is a family favorite and a crowd pleaser. Check out the article, 5 Ways to Host for Less, that we published last May to discover the simple recipe for this delicious dish.

Travel & Adventure

Prague, Czech Republic

Fifteen years ago, my highschool band program took a trip to the Czech Republic during Spring Break. And while we primarily stayed in Prague, we also got to travel to nearby towns, explore the countryside, and meet Czech students and visit with them at their school. Should you choose to venture to Prague this Spring or next, or any time in between, I can’t promise the same wonderful experience (for you probably won’t be traveling with 120 teenagers and their chaperones), but I am fairly certain you will enjoy the beautiful scenery, delicious food, and unique cultural experiences. If you’re in the planning stages for a trip in 2021 or you’re more spontaneous with your travel, Prague’s Easter Markets are open March 29 to April 19, and they are worth seeing! Visit prague.eu to learn more about these unique markets.

Barbara, just wanted you to know we bought The Pout, Pout Fish for Jasper. He loves it, and we do, too. Thanks for the suggestion! 🐡
